brunch

I think there is something great about the idea of brunch, something unexplored by most people. It’s all the deliciousness of breakfast, and by breakfast I mean the hearty meal that has wholesome goodness and crave worthy smells (not what I eat while rushing out the door with my luggage of work items). There is this laziness about brunch, as if the occasion itself could forgive you for waking up late on the weekend, and also dressing the part. No pretentiousness associated with it. Brunch is for all, an American and democratic event.

The drinking seems much more appropriate at brunch too.

And it seems just so normal and carefree to kick back and enjoy the afternoon, sun and all, in its glorious moments (maybe the drinking is setting in now). There can be no other greater pleasure than the company of a good friend (or a group of them!) on a beautiful day, sitting in a lovely setting, and having great conversations over food. No rush to make it back to work on time, no silly clothes that need to be minded lest the stain set, and most of all, no reservations. Simply enjoyment of the moment. And once you find this place of equal pleasure in conversation and food, then you have achieved a victory of immeasurable proportions. Brunch is quite honestly, my favorite meal.

I am so happy to have found a place that provides not only good food, but great scenery as well. This small-ish cafe has the charm of the old ranch house that it used to be in a former life, as well as the welcoming feeling. It makes both of us very happy to have some place to go and talk about the woes of the hot weather and bugs, alongside our inventions and ideas that will soon change the world. But we don’t really have to do anything when we are here. And that’s a wonderful feeling… relaxation.
